Rebuilding the entire human race

The Plan:  A new approach to restoring humanity

Genesis 15:6 gives Abraham’s secret; He “believed the Lord and He [God] credited it to him as righteousness.”
Abraham’s trust became the foundation for a covenant between his descendants and the living God. Dozens of other passages in the Old Testament set forth the details of God’s covenant, or contract with His chosen people.
In this chapter, God seals His promises to Abraham with a fiery vision. Abraham can expect:
  •             A new land to live in:  Trusting God, Abraham leaves his home and travels miles away towards Canaan.
  • A large and prosperous family: This dream obsesses Abraham and, when its fulfillment seems long in coming, tests his faith severely.
  •     A great nation to come from him: This promise does not come many centuries after Abraham; not until the days of David and Solomon do the Hebrew people become a nation.
  •    A blessing to the whole world: From the beginning, God makes it clear He has chosen the Hebrew people, not as an end, but as a means to the ultimate goal of reaching other nations.

Life Questions
Do people still rely on covenant or contracts today? What purposes do they serve?
